The program areas for the Siembra Latinos Fund include:
Education
- It supports programs that help youth and adults with the completion of a career pathway, program, or degree that qualifies them for a promising career.
Funding Priorities
- Education programs that aim to help students achieve vocational and technical careers. Also, projects that focus on assisting English Learner students achieve fluency in the English language.
- Educational efforts that focus on improving high school and college school students’ critical thinking to collaborate and solve real world problems, which may include use of science, mathematics, and technology.
- Integrated academic supports that ensure high school graduates are prepared for college and are supported to pursue their career aspirations (e.g., tutoring and homework support, in-school supplemental programs, academic mentors, Financial Aid application assistance, college preparation).
Health
- It invests in prevention and early intervention services that improve the mental health of individuals and families due to COVID-19.
Funding Priorities
- COVID-19 grief and other programs that teach self-advocacy skills and/or provide guidance in navigating mental health services to secure needed resources for people who have limited access to services (e.g., access to public benefit programs, resources, and referrals)
- Community health promotion and prevention programs that keep people healthy that address isolation and social-emotional impacts related to the pandemic (e.g., programs that promote healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise, substance abuse education, family violence prevention, peer support groups addressing social-emotional topics, trauma, etc.)
Economic Development
- Its invest in economic opportunities and outcomes for Latinos/as.
Funding Priorities
- Programs that foster business development, retention, and growth.
- Increased access to education, training, and entrepreneurship programs.
Funding will be considered for the following types of requests:
- Program support: for the expansion or refinement of existing programs, new programs that show the promise of impact and sustainability, and support for emergency or special circumstances. (e.g., wages, equipment)
- Operating support: unrestricted grants to organizations that have a proven track record of community benefit.
Funding Information
- A total of $20,000 is available for grantmaking. Grants are expected to range from $2,500 – $5,000. Grant recipients will be expected to use all funds and provide a written evaluation of the project within 11 months of the grant date.
Grants fund may support
- Pre-development or construction costs for facility construction or renovation
- Matching grants to leverage other funding
- Developmental costs for new programs
- Personnel expenses that relate to specific program goals
- Equipment, materials and/or facilities expenses that directly benefit participants or are an identifiable part of project
Eligibility Criteria
SLF grants are open to:
- 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations
- Public programs (schools, parks, public health, etc.)
- Church-sponsored activities with benefit beyond their own membership
- Organizations and collaboratives that are not legally incorporated—for these, CFMC requires an agreement with a “Fiscal Sponsor” defined as a tax exempt 501(c)3 organization accountable for financial management of the grant.
Grants fund will not support
- Projects that discriminate or with political or partisan purposes
- Religious activities or services that are non-secular and/or promote a religious doctrine
- Funding to schools and public agencies that would supplant tax-supported, mandated services
- Individual sports teams
- Annual fundraising campaigns or events
- Creation of, or addition to, endowment funds
- Payment of debt or legal settlements
- Expenses incurred prior to the grant award date
- Attendance at conferences for staff or volunteers
- Research projects
- Grants to provide college or other educational scholarships to individuals
- Grants to provide financial assistance directly to individuals
