Legacy Grants support Bay Area community arts organizations in San Francisco, Alameda, and Marin Counties in providing working artists with the necessary supports and services to fuel outstanding and diverse practice. This may include access to financial support, professional development, and networking and career advancement opportunities.
The foundation prioritizes support for smaller, independent arts organizations presenting challenging and cutting-edge works.

Grants are made in support of the following practices
- Visual Arts, including the exhibition of painting and sculpture
- Theater, including opera
- Music
- Dance
Competitive applicants can demonstrate a history of
- Comprehensive support for working artists, including but not limited to residencies, direct financial support/re-granting, presenting/exhibiting opportunities, professional development and networking, and/or subsidized rehearsal or presenting space
- Promotion of contemporary and innovative works
- Collaboration and community-informed practices, promoting meaningful relationships between artists and their communities
- Prioritizing support for Black, Indigenous, artists of color, and those historically marginalized by persistent cultural, economic, and racial barriers.
Eligibility Criteria
The general requirements for eligibility are:
- Organizations and artists that work in Alameda, Marin, and/or San Francisco counties
- Public charities operating under an IRS 501(c)(3) status or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization.
