Details:
CTV is excited to announce this grant opportunity for organizations that work with youth or with the adults who influence and care about them. Youth and their communities know what factors in their lives make using tobacco, vapor products, and cannabis more likely and what community changes would reduce use. These funds are to support youth and communities in making those changes
Tobacco, vapor, and/or cannabis use is linked to health and social problems that affect young people in the short and long term. For example, some problems are impaired memory and learning, car crashes, mental health issues, addiction, impacts on lifetime academic and earning goals, and heart and lung disease. Many young people have shared that the main reasons they use tobacco, vapor, or cannabis products are seeking pleasure and new experiences, fitting in with a social group, and trying to cope with mental health distress.
These funds are for organizations seeking to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors to reduce youth use of tobacco, vapor products, and cannabis. Successful grant projects will address one or more of the following factors:
- Decreasing community access to cannabis, tobacco, and/or vapor products
- Reducing positive attitudes and expectations of use
- Increasing positive attitudes and expectations of not using
- Decreasing mental health distress
- Increasing coping skills that do not involve tobacco, vapor, or cannabis use
- Increasing school and community attachment
- Increasing the positive influence of adults.
