The Minnesota Department of Education makes this funding available from Minnesota Session Laws 2023, chapter 55, article 4, section 21, subdivision 93 and Minnesota Statutes, to postsecondary institutions partnering with school districts (joint applicants) for the purpose of assisting American Indian people to become teachers and to provide additional education for American Indian teachers.
This funding will assist with recruiting American Indians, providing professional development and assist students while working towards licensure as an American Indian teacher or prekindergarten-12th grade education careers.
Funding Information
This grant opportunity estimates that $1,000,000 is available to fund four to six grants. The maximum grant award may not exceed $184,000. The grant term will last for five years, and the grantee will have opportunities to apply for additional funding throughout the grant term.
Grant Period
The term of the initial grant period is anticipated to be from January 2024 through December 2028. There will not be an option to certify funds beyond the five-year grant period.
Eligibility Criteria
A Minnesota postsecondary institution and a Minnesota school district must jointly apply. The postsecondary institution must serve as the fiscal host for the grant. The application must be developed with the participation of the parent advisory committee of the applicant school district in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section, and the Indian advisory committee at the postsecondary institution.
