The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation (“Foundation”) seeks to serve the public interest and fulfill its mission while encouraging practices which demonstrate fairness, efficiency, and sustainability. With this goal in mind, these standards have been adopted to guide the Foundation Board of Trustees in the funding decision process and to advise grantees regarding the use of funds.
Based on that mission, the foundation awards grants to organizations in four areas: benevolent dentistry/access to dental care, oral health education for the public, education for dental professionals, and oral health related research.
Funding Criteria
Dental Health and Education Related Programs Funded:
- Benevolent Dentistry/Access to Care – Clinics, programs, projects, and events that provide dental care and education to those unable to access the care they need due to financial, physical, or geographical barriers.
- Public Education – Programs that educate children and adults in dental self-care to improve oral health and establish life-long habits.
- Professional Education – Programs and scholarships that prepare the next generation of dental professionals, address dental professional shortage areas, and advance dentistry.
- Research and Support Programs – Initiatives that advance or support their core objectives.
Eligibility Criteria
- The organization seeking the grant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with public charity status, an educational institution, a government agency, or a faith-based organization that serves all members of the community regardless of religious belief. They do not award grants to individuals.
- The program, project or initiative being funded must be dental health or education related.
- The program cannot discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, or religion.
- The program must serve Oklahomans.
Additional Criteria
- Type of Program – Free or low-cost to patients (priority given to free programs)
- Dentist Type – Volunteer, paid, or both (priority given to volunteer programs)
- Beneficiaries – Children, elderly, disabled, other low-income adults
- Geographic area
- Impact – May be based on number served, significance of population served, educational impact
- Operational efficiency – Cost of program compared to value of treatment delivered
- Total cost per patient
- Longevity and sustainability of program
- Patient Qualification – Measures taken to ensure program serves intended population.
