The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was enacted in 1974 by president Gerald Ford through the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and took effect in January 1975 through bipartisan legislation CDBG projects funded include infrastructure, public services, housing activities, economic development.
CDBG projects must meet one of three National Objectives:
- Benefit low-moderate income individuals/households
- Eliminate slum/blight conditions
- Respond to urgent needs
Funding Information
A leveraging requirement of 10% applies for all projects and no applications for assistance under $5,000 (Five Thousand Dollars) will be accepted.
Activities
Concept Papers are being accepted for any eligible CDBG activity, which includes but is not limited to: infrastructure, housing (including site preparation and homeowner occupied rehabilitation), housing down payment assistance programs, public facilities, historic preservation, elimination of slum and blighted properties, microenterprise and special economic development activities, and public service projects.
Eligibility Criteria
CDBG allocations will be made to eligible non-profit organizations and municipalities within McHenry County.
