The fellowship was designed to identify, elevate, and amplify the voices of Puerto Rican writers in the Puerto Rico archipelago and throughout the United States diaspora who have continued their practice while enduring natural disasters, political conflict, and limited funding opportunities.
Funding Information
This scholarship will provide $500,000 in grants to emerging and established writers in Puerto Rico and throughout the American diaspora. The second cohort of twenty fellowship writers will join the first cohort and receive unrestricted grants of $25,000 each.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Letras Boricuas scholarship, writers must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application, be current residents of Puerto Rico or the United States, and identify as Puerto Rican. Writers must work in the genres of poetry (includes spoken word), fiction, creative non-fiction (includes memoirs, personal essays, and related texts), and/or children’s literature, and demonstrate a publishing history. This scholarship can only be applied for by individual writers.
