The program will support interventionists, survivors and community-based groups, agencies and organizations that strengthen Miami-Dade’s community-based response to gun violence.
Projects should improve quality of life and engage those at high-potential for involvement in gun violence, including reentry support for those returning from incarceration, deploying high-risk violence interventionists, and providing mental health and survivor support services. The SSC Program will also support grassroots anti-violence projects that expand access to spaces, activities, services and relationships that develop children and youth. Funded programs will receive technical assistance and training support to ensure they are implemented well and positioned for future success.
The program is funded through a collaboration with Miami-Dade County Office of Neighborhood Safety’s Community Violence Intervention Initiative (CVI), a hyper-local effort to combat gun violence through community-led prevention, intervention, and reentry strategies.
The RFP includes three main Service Areas: High-Risk Interventionists to be deployed into communities; Reentry Services for individuals returning from incarceration; and Mental Health & Victim Outreach Services that support survivors and individuals impacted by gun violence. In Section General Definitions section-item j, the RFP includes a special definition and consideration for “Grassroots Groups”: Organizations that are community-based small groups or entities or groups of people led by individuals that may have no formal organizational structure, that conduct Projects or Initiatives, and/or provide direct services to the community and that have all the following characteristics:
