DOEE seeks eligible entities to produce motivated, educated students in the technical fields related to solar energy. The grant will provide hands-on educational and technical assistance to District-based high school students to prepare them for the Washington DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix (EVGP) Competition. Other green electricity/solar training activities may also be funded.
DOEE seeks applicants with expertise in the areas of engineering, science, and math concepts, and experience in teaching skills and concepts.
The primary objective is to motivate and educate students in the technical fields related to electric vehicles and solar energy in order to prepare them for participation in the Washington DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix Competition (EVGP). This grant does that with hands-on educational and technical assistance to District-based high school students. Another objective is to similarly engage high school students involved in the District’s Green Zone Environmental Program (GZEP), who may not be familiar with the EVGP. A third objective is to promote green electricity and related training for solar development in the District.
The purpose of the grant is to generate enthusiasm for science and engineering principles at a crucial stage in the educational development of young adults; enhance participants’ understanding of renewable energy and associated technologies, and encourage them to consider technical careers; demonstrate the highest levels of reliability, efficiency and energy management of battery powered electric vehicles; emphasize critical thinking, leadership, team work, and project management; and educate a new generation of drivers about the environmental and financial benefits of using clean transportation.
