United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County’s Community Investment Committee is seeking projects from community organizers, event planners, community organizations, and/or individuals to make community block parties and fairs and family centers a reality!
Focus Themes
UWABC wants to hear your innovative proposals to address the key community themes voiced by their incredible community members:
- Equitable access to opportunities, mental health care, tutoring, and counseling for college
- Creation and access to internships and apprenticeships
- Building connections with the community and role models in the school.
Community Block Parties and Fairs
- Collaborative events: Where community members can come together and share their skills, experiences, stories, and opportunities
- Fun: For everyone
- Reliable: They are building something that community can count on
- Built by community: As something for the community, community members are the experts
- Upholds anti-racist: Practices and centers United for Youth’s Bold Community Goal.
Family Centers
- Fun: For everyone in the family – including young and older people
- Reliable: They are building something that community can count on
- Built by community: As something for the community, community members are the experts
- Upholds anti-racist: Practices and centers United for Youth’s Bold Community Goal
- Share access: To resources around education and the school system
- Blend: Families, community, and schools in one location.
Funding Information
- Community Block Parties and Fairs: The Community Investment Committee will award a total of $150,000, split between 3 organizations or individuals, $50,000 per recipient yearly
- Family Centers: The Community Investment Committee will be awarding one individual or organization with $100,000 each year for three years.
