A minimum of $1.2M will be invested in total, with a maximum of $50,000 for local organizations. Higher amounts for national organizations with the ability to scale efforts in multiple localities may be considered.
Funding will support community organizations that can engage volunteers in helping Afghan newcomers meet their ongoing resettlement needs. Based on feedback from frontline organizations about the needs of Afghan newcomers a year after the fall of Kabul, priority will be given to organizations that can demonstrate they are focusing on one or more of the following areas of work:
- Workforce development
- Help Afghan newcomers secure employment commensurate with their skills or that builds earning potential.
- Social emotional wellness
- Enhance social connectedness and combat isolation.
- Education & career support for transitional aged young adults
- Assist transitional aged young adults develop a clear understanding of and ability to navigate career and education pathways. For the purpose of this funding opportunity, transitional aged young adults are defined as between the ages of 18-24.
- Volunteer should be sustained (not a one-time service event) and directly connected to the project’s provision of services. Examples of volunteer roles may include ongoing mentorship, tutoring, facilitation, coaching, training, etc.
Funding Information
Grants to local organizations will average $50,000 each, with larger grants considered for national organizations with the ability to scale efforts. They anticipate awarding 20-30 grants to organizations across the country.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Have a project that is based in the United States
- Be a 501c3 organization or a project fiscally-sponsored by 501c3 organization
- Serve Afghan newcomers (defined as humanitarian parolees, SIVs, evacuees, or refugees) in the U.S.
- Have an established infrastructure to engage community members as ongoing volunteers in support of Afghan newcomers
- Have raised a minimum of $200,000 in revenue last fiscal year or last 12 months.
