Grants are awarded through a competitive process and require a dollar-for-dollar, non-Federal match, which can be cash or documented in-kind. The grant program is administered by the National Park Service (NPS) in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

- Additional Information on Eligibility
- Federal agencies, with the exception of the National Park Service (NPS). Federal agencies collaborating with a nonprofit partner to preserve the historic properties or collections owned by the federal agency may submit applications through the nonprofit partner. Federally-recognized Indian Tribes, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiian Organizations, as defined by 54 USC § 300300. Grants are not available for sites or collections owned by the NPS.
