The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Grant Program helps State Departments of Agriculture maintain and improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency by:
- Expanding capacity for the aggregation, processing, manufacturing, storing, transporting, wholesaling, distribution of locally and regionally produced food products
- Creating new revenue streams for producers by supporting development of value-added products
- Modernizing manufacturing, tracking, storage and information technology systems
- Enhancing worker safety through adoption of technology or equipment improvement
- Improving entity compliance with federal, state and local food safety requirements
- Supporting new construction, expansion or modernization of facilities
- Developing, customizing or installing equipment that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, increases efficiency in water use, improves air/water quality or more of the USDA’s climate action goals.
ISDA encourages applicants to develop projects which address these issues affecting middle-of-the supply-chain activities in Indiana that:
- Expand capacity for the aggregation, processing, manufacturing, storing, transporting, wholesaling, distribution of locally and regionally produced food products.
- Create new revenue streams for producers by supporting development of value-added products.
- Modernize manufacturing, tracking, storage and information technology systems.
- Enhance worker safety through adoption of technology or equipment improvements.
- Improve entity compliance with federal, state and local food safety requirements.
- Support new construction, expansion or modernization of facilities.
- Develop, customize or install equipment that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, increases efficiency in water use, improves air/water quality or any of the USDA’s climate action goals.

- Indiana’s Available Grant Allocation: $8,082,536.17
- Infrastructure Project Minimum Award Amount: $100,000.00
- Infrastructure Project Maximum Award Amount: $3,000,000
Project Period
May 25, 2024- May 24, 2027
Eligible Expenses may include, but are not Limited To:
- Purchase/upgrade of equipment, infrastructure and technology – including installation;
- Construction of a new facility;
- Increasing storage space – including cold storage;
- Increasing packaging and labeling capabilities; and
- Facility upgrades for climate-smart equipment.
Funding Information
Total award from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Indiana is $8,082,536
- Infrastructure sub-awards will be awarded between $100,000 and $3 million, with matching funds required.
- Special Equipment sub-awards will be awarded between $10,000 and $100,000, no matching funds required.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply you must be:
- agricultural producer(s) or processor(s), or groups of agricultural producers or processors,
- nonprofit organizations operating in the middle-of-the-food supply-chain activities,
- for-profit entity operating middle-of-the-food-supply-chain activities such as processing, aggregation, or distribution of targeted agricultural products, whose activities are primarily focused for the benefit of local and regional producers,
- local government entities operating in the middle-of-the-food-supply-chain activities,
- tribal governments operating in the middle-of-the-food-supply-chain activities,
- institutions such as schools, universities, or hospitals bringing producers together to establish cooperative or shared infrastructure or invest in equipment that will benefit multiple producers middle-of-the-food-supply-chain activities such as processing, aggregation, distribution of targeted agricultural product. For-profit applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the SBA small business size standards.
