In 2023, the Oregon Immigrant and Refugee Funder Collaborative (OIRFC) engaged in conversations with the grantee partners and other stakeholders to explore how the Collaborative can better serve immigrants and refugees in Oregon.
Goals
OIRFC’s new strategy includes dedicated resources for movement building for social justice work aimed at facilitating shared strategy and joint action-taking among individuals and organizations working together to build power and achieve lasting reforms for immigrant and refugee communities in Oregon.
This strategy includes two movement building funding streams:
- Early Stage (not CFP eligible)
- Rising up: Raising awareness, Power building, safe spaces
- Building Up: Leadership development, Data and research, Organizing
- Late Stage (CFP eligible)
- Standing Up (mobilization, alliances and action): Amplifying voices, Challenging and changing narratives, Collaboration capacity
- Shaking Up – Laws and policy change, Develop new structures, Leverage partnerships and relationships
Award Types
There are three types of grant funding available. Regardless of type, all requests must demonstrate a strong connection to this opportunity’s goal and intended outcome(s).
- Capacity building support: Investments that support activities designed to strengthen organizational ability and infrastructure for advancing or sustaining existing movement building work that improves well-being for immigrants and refugees. Examples:
- Hiring staff/organizer to specifically support movement building work
- Skills training in movement building
- Participating in movement building skills building for cohorts
- Movement building consultant support
- Respite program for long-serving movement building leaders
- Project support: Investments that support a clearly defined set of activities that are carefully planned and designed to achieve a specific aim or goal for advancing or sustaining existing movement building work that improves well-being for immigrants and refugees. Examples:
- Creating policy committees to develop, implement and monitor policy reform
- Planning with community partners to develop shared strategies
- Planning joint actions among individuals and organizations/communities
- Developing communications strategy tools including social media tools, digital storytelling, radio and podcast, messaging
- Operating support: Investments in the core operations of an organization whose primary focus is on advancing or sustaining movement building work that improves well-being for immigrants and refugees.
Funding Information
- Award Amount and Grant Period/Duration: $100,000-$200,000, for up to 2 years
- Total available funds: $675,000
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants Must:
- Fall into one of these categories: a 501(c)(3) public charity or be fiscally sponsored, a public educational institution, a government or recognized tribal agency, or an organization that is requesting funding for a project that has a charitable, tax-exempt purpose
- Seek funding for work that takes place within the state of Oregon
- Provide equal opportunity in leadership, staffing and service regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, political affiliation or religious belief
- Not require attendance at or participation in religious/faith activities as a condition of service delivery nor require adherence to religious/faith beliefs as a condition of service or employment.
Ineligibility
- Work that does not have a significant impact in Oregon
- Direct grants, scholarships or loans to individuals
- General fund drives, annual appeals, special events or conference sponsorships
- Program Related Investments (loans and guarantees) to a specific project
- Elimination of operating deficits
- Earmarks for purposes of influencing legislation
- Any expenditures that would violate OIRFC members’, or a grantee’s, tax-exempt status.
