General Operating Support is defined as a grant made to further the general mission and work of an organization, rather than for a specific purpose or project. General Operating Support gives nonprofits flexibility to direct their spending where it is needed most and allows greater focus on achieving an organization’s mission.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be serving people within the Community Foundation’s twenty-town region and meet The Foundation’s minimum eligibility requirements.
- Applicants must have a published giveGreater.org profile.
- An organization cannot apply if it has a current GOS grant that ends later than Dec. 31, 2022.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
You must be a tax-exempt organization: While each grant process has its own criteria, all applicants must be defined as tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) or any applicable statute of the Internal Revenue code. While grants are occasionally made to governmental agencies, local nonprofits receive priority. Requests will be considered from groups that do not have tax-exemption status, provided that they have a fiscal agent with the appropriate tax status. In projects involving a partnership of agencies, a single agency with the appropriate tax status and financial management capacity must assume the role of lead organization.
Individuals are not eligible for grants except for participants in the New Haven Neighborhood Leadership Program and applicants to academic scholarships.
You must provide services within our 20 town area:
- Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, North Branford, North Haven, West Haven, Oxford, New Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, Orange, Woodbridge
You must comply with all applicable local, state, and federal anti-discrimination laws on the basis of: age, sex, religion, national origin, sexual preference.
This pertains to all aspects of organizational operations including hiring, leadership and service provision.
Projects that do not generally receive consideration:
- religious activities
- endowment campaigns
- lobbying
- travel
- previously incurred debts
- funding deficits
