City of Newport News are proud to partner with Virginia Peninsula Community College to provide these grant funds from the state to educators and nonprofits across the region to enhance STEM-related offerings for citizens throughout Coastal Virginia.
Coastal VA STEM hub, a regional STEM learning ecosystem, is offering grant funding opportunities for educators and nonprofits in Coastal Virginia (i.e., Hampton Roads and Eastern Shore). Funds are available to develop new science, technology, engineering and math focused initiatives, activities and programming. Projects proposed for grant funding should cultivate or enhance STEM awareness, literacy, and skill development.
Funding will be allocated based on the evaluation of need and the scope of work for each applicant. The review committee will make awards based on resources available. The overall objectives of each application should:
- Champion STEM fluency and competency within the region
- Support career focused STEM programming that aligns to STEM careers
- Be inclusive with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.

- Career-focused STEM programming that aligns Pre-K to gray STEM programming to STEM careers
- An inclusive collaborative community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a focus.
Eligibility Criteria
- Teachers and organizations across Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore encouraged to apply
- Areas where teachers and non-profits must be located in order to be considered eligible for this grant funding are: Accomack County, Chesapeake, Franklin, Gloucester, Hampton, Isle of Wight County, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton County, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, James City County and York County.
