Each year they honor individuals and businesses for making significant contributions to the arts in Howard County with the Howie Awards. The Howies are presented at the Celebration of the Arts gala, where members of Howard County’s arts, education, government and business communities are gathered. This is an important award to recognize those who support the arts and their local artists.
How It Works
Nominees are judged on their contributions to and their impact on the artistic life of Howard County through the arts, arts education and support of the arts. Winners are selected by the Howie Committee.
- Outstanding Artist
- presented to a person who has contributed a high level of talent and vision to the artistic life of the community.
- Outstanding Arts Educator
- presented to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to arts education in Howard County.
- Outstanding Business or Community Supporter
- presented to a business (large or small) or individual that demonstrates a record of commitment to the arts in Howard County.
- Coleen West Leadership in the Arts Award
- recognizes an individual for leadership in the arts in Howard County and is presented at the discretion of the Howie Committee.
- Legacy in the Arts Award
- recognizes an individual or group for lifetime achievements in the arts in Howard County and is presented at the discretion of the Howie Committee.
Eligibility Criteria
Previous winners, current members of the Howard County Arts Council Board of Directors and Howie Committee members are not eligible.
