The mini-grants fund materials, basic equipment, and other items needed to make NYC Public School Green Team projects happen. Past grant projects include recycling and garden projects, t-shirts/uniforms for the Green Team, school sustainability events, virtual environmental programming and eco-friendly giveaways.
Application Guidelines
- Applications are accepted from NYC Public Schools grades K-12
- School must have a Green Team, or be in the process of creating one
- Preference will be given to recycling and waste reated projects
- Green Team must have at least five members
- Students must be photo released
- Teacher or other school staff must submit application and be the primary contact. Parent or community member may be a secondary contact.
- Grantee partners must complete Grant Agreement
- Projects must be completed and reported on by Friday, September 30, 2022. Please plan your projects accordingly.
Budget Guidelines Grantees Must Follow
Schools may choose to receive recycling bins and tools from this Material Support List (with free shipping), receive cash to purchase materials on their own, or a combination of both options. They encourage schools to patronize local businesses, use reusable or compostable items, and build or make items (e.g. tree guards or greenhouses) rather than purchase them. They do not fund the following items:
- Existing school curricula and long-standing programs
- Programs of staffed nonprofits based in the school
- Salaries and training fees
- Fees to large organizations of businesses
- Rent and utilities
- 501(c)(3) incorporation fees
- Luxury itemsSpeaker honorariums
- Back-to-school items
