Mission
To evaluate and analyze the charitable needs of the Emporia community. The emphasis will be on long-term improvements to the quality of lives of the children in Emporia.
Eligibility Criteria
The 79 fund committee primarily considers specific individual projects that will make a difference in the long-term improvement to the lives of Emporians, especially the children of Emporia. The committee is involved in pro-actively seeking out opportunities toward its mission, particularly those opportunities that are volunteer- based. The committee also considers duplicity of funding and possibilities of collaboration with other funds in determining recommendations.
General Guidelines
Generally the committee:
- Does not support other large fundraising projects
- Does not support entities that have taxing authority except for specific one- time special projects that are innovative and above the basic services provided by those entities
- Does not support annual drives or repetitive grants
- Does not support individuals. (Most difficult for deductible dollars with the IRS)
- Is not involved in the donations of items – autographed or otherwise
- Does not fund personnel positions
- Considers projects with a high degree of volunteerism as a high priority
- Does not fund multiple year grants or pledges
- Considers “matches in dollars and/or volunteer hours” as a good idea but not mandatory
- Considers closely organizations that want to expand their operations that already have sufficient operating income and/or other funds
- Does not fund ongoing operational expenses.
