Details:
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has an ongoing Accelerated Implementation and Deployment of Pavement Technologies (AIDPT) Program, which includes the deployment of innovative technologies to improve pavement performance and reduce agency risk. A constant challenge in the transportation community is timely and efficient deployment of these new and innovative technologies. This is particularly true in the area of asphalt pavements. It often takes years, and sometimes decades, to change business practices, revise specifications, or refine production and construction practices.
Purpose
The purpose of this cooperative agreement (Agreement) is to stimulate, facilitate, and expedite the deployment and rapid adoption of new and innovative technology relating to the design, production, testing, control, construction, and investigation of asphalt pavements. The proposed project is a cooperative effort between the FHWA and the Recipient to improve the quality and performance of asphalt pavements. In advancing 21st century solutions, they can improve performance and safety, and keep America moving forward.
Program Goals
The goals of the program are:
- the deployment of new, cost-effective designs, materials, recycled materials, and practices to extend pavement life and performance and to improve user satisfaction;
- the reduction of initial costs and lifecycle costs of pavements, including the costs of new construction, replacement, maintenance, and rehabilitation;
- the deployment of accelerated construction techniques to increase safety and reduce construction time and traffic disruption and congestion; the deployment of engineering design criteria and specifications for innovative practices, products and materials for use in highway pavements;
- the deployment of new nondestructive and real-time pavement evaluation technologies and techniques; and
- effective technology transfer and information dissemination to accelerate implementation of innovative technologies and to improve life, performance, cost effectiveness, safety, and user satisfaction.
Funding Information
- The FHWA anticipates Federal funding up to a total amount of $1,000,000 per year may be made available for this Agreement, subject to the availability of funds, for a total potential Federal share of $5,000,000.
- The period of performance will consist of one 24-month (2 year) base period and up to three (3) 12-month option periods. The total potential period of performance, if all option periods are exercised, is 60 months (5 years). The period of performance will begin on the effective date of the award, as stated in the resulting cooperative agreement.
