This program supports states and localities, through a combination of direct grants and national training and technical assistance, to implement sustainable system improvements that result in improved youth outcomes, reduced recidivism, safer communities, cost savings, and increased public confidence in the juvenile justice system.
The goal of this program is to implement youth defense system improvements that strengthen youth defense and support positive youth outcomes
Objectives
Program objectives are to ensure that youth involved with the juvenile justice system have access to high-quality, specialized legal representation and access to resources that address the collateral consequences of justice system involvement. This program supports grants to states, Tribes, localities, and organizations providing defense services to improve juvenile defense delivery focusing on specialized training, data and performance capacity building, implementing a holistic defense model, and addressing other jurisdiction-specific gaps and needs.
