The City of Aurora is requesting applications for its Re-Start Retention Grant program to assist small businesses located in the City of Aurora with business expenses and operational expenses to prevent business closures and the loss of jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting mitigation efforts have negatively impacted a number of business sectors throughout the country. It is important for the City of Aurora to continue to support a viable business community through financial assistance.
For businesses that were in business in the City of Aurora as of January 1, 2019 and occupy commercial storefronts, grants that match 50% of eligible losses with a maximum award of $10,000 will be available. This is a one-time grant from the City of Aurora to local small businesses except those that are listed as being ineligible.
Funding Information
- The total available funding for the is $300,000. Funding will come from one source in 2023: casino gaming tax
- Grant amounts will vary and are intended to be paid up to $10,000, up to 50% of the amount of documented losses, depending on the number of applications received.
Eligibility Criteria
Small businesses in ALL commercial areas of the City of Aurora, including those operating on City-owned property, are eligible to apply with the exceptions listed below.
Ineligibility criteria
- A government-owned business entity
- A business that is delinquent on payment of any State of Illinois tax obligation
- A business that is delinquent on payment of any City of Aurora obligation
- A business that is engaged in a business that is unlawful under Illinois or federal law
- A business that is on the federal System for Award Management excluded parties list
- A business that has permanently closed
- A business that employs more than 50 employees
- Applicants must NOT have made more than $2 million in gross revenue in 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2022
- Have no outstanding code enforcement violations
- A business that previously received a CERF or Re-Start Retention Grant from the City of Aurora.
