Langscape Magazine is an extension of the voice of Terralingua. Through the power of stories, images, and art, it supports the mission to educate minds and hearts about the vital value of biocultural diversity for the thriving of all life on earth.
Langscape Magazine is a general-interest publication, not a scholarly journal. Terralingua aims to be appealing and accessible not only to academics, students, professionals, and policymakers, but also to a varied, multicultural, and multilingual audience of individuals and communities around the world.
Terralingua asks contributors to avoid a formal academic writing style and use colloquial, everyday language, while drawing from a solid basis of scientific and/or traditional knowledge. Think storytelling or journalism rather than scholarly article or technical paper!
Theme
- For the 2024 issue of Langscape Magazine, they call for stories on “territories of life,” including — but not limited to — Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCAs) and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs).
- This concept embodies the core tenet of the idea and practices of biocultural diversity: that there is an inextricable, mutual link between people and the natural world.
- Territories of life sustain people’s lives; in turn, people sustain the territories from which they draw their relationships, knowledge systems, and livelihoods.
Criteria
- They seek original, previously unpublished material.
- They’re eager to hear from Indigenous and non-Indigenous custodians and stewards, as well as their allies, who wish to share ideas, reflections, and on-the-ground experiences on this theme.
- They welcome written stories as well as photo and video essays. And they also wish to explore other, more symbolic or metaphorical, ways of addressing the theme, such as poetry, artwork, songs, music, and more.
Interested in contributing?
- Proposed stories can be in written and/or visual media: essays, short fiction, poetry, photo essays, videos, postcard stories, podcast scripts, music, spoken word, artwork, or any other format or combination of formats.
- Stories are published in English but can be submitted in French or Spanish; they’ll translate them.
- Note: Langscape Magazine is not an academic publication; they use a narrative or journalistic style.
