Grant funds may be used to compensate the artists for time spent creating new work, to purchase materials, or to rent equipment or space for the process. This highly competitive program is reviewed by an independent panel of practicing artists and arts professionals. Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
These are examples of fundable projects:
- A multimedia artist creating a new video series
- A writer completing the first draft of a novel
- A dance ensemble developing choreography for a new piece
- A visual artist creating art for exhibition that explores new subjects and techniques
- A musician composing music for a new album
Funding Information
The grant amount for this program is $4,000 per award. The full award will be paid on receipt of a signed contract and after September 1, 2022. Grant amounts are dependent upon federal and state funding and are subject to change.
Grant Period
The project must take place between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
Individual artists and artist groups may apply. Individual applicants must:
- be a resident of Vermont at the time the award is granted and must have been a resident of Vermont for a minimum of one year prior to the application deadline
- be eighteen years of age or older at the time of application
- have submitted all required reports on any prior Council grants
Artist groups must have at least one member who meets all the above requirements who will serve as the lead applicant and project coordinator.
Who May Not Apply
- artists whose projects involve activities for which college credit is given
- artists or artist groups who have received a Creation Grant within the past five years (FY2018- FY2022; September 1, 2017, or after)
- nonprofits and organizations
