Valentine is a private foundation committed to achieving this vision in the Philadelphia region by:
- Funding nonprofits working at the intersection of racial and gender justice. The trustees prioritize funding programs that pursue social change by addressing sexist and racist attitudes, policies and practices.
- Strengthening the leadership capacity of organizations serving women and girls; and
- Aligning their endowment with their vision.
Recognizing the legacy of gender and racial oppression, the Foundation prioritizes funding organizations led by and/or primarily focused on:
- Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC)
- Women, Trans and gender-expansive people.
Funding Information
The maximum amount awarded is $15,000, with most grants in the range of $7,000–$10,000; for multi-year grants, the maximum is $15,000 a year for up to three years ($45,000).
Eligibility Criteria
The Valentine Foundation primarily funds organizations serving the Greater Philadelphia area or that have national impact with a local connection.
The Valentine Foundation does NOT fund the following:
- Organizations that are not determined to be a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Scholarships
- Endowments
- Capital campaigns
- International initiatives
- Individuals
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Political organizations for political purposes
