The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s Community Fund for Women & Girls is providing grants ($1,500 – $20,000) to nonprofits that provide women in Greater New Haven with greater economic security through programs that support:
- Women’s workforce training and employment participation and the necessary wraparound services
- Women’s basic needs
- Women entrepreneurs
- Childcare and after-school supports which support women in the workforce
Funding Priorities
- Financial support for women – Wrap-around supports (transportation, childcare, housing) that allow women to fully participate in training and work opportunities. Priority will be given to programs providing support to women who are ineligible for federal relief programs.
- Sample Outcomes: Increased ability to seek and maintain employment; increased ability to participate in and complete job-training programs.
- Basic needs support that allows women and their families to manage during the pandemic.
- Sample Outcomes: Women’s increased economic security.
- Entrepreneur and business support for women entrepreneurs including direct financial assistance for operational and administrative costs, business planning and marketing guidance and other related services.
- Sample Outcomes: Increased financial strength for women-owned businesses, increased staff capacity, creation of employment opportunities for women.
- Childcare/After school programs – Staffing, temporary wage supplements and supports to retain staff and keep programs in operation.
- Sample Outcomes: Increased staff retention; increased wages for childcare providers; continued program operations for childcare/youth programming.
- Health and Safety – Personal protective equipment (PPE), cleaning supplies and rapid testing and/or test kits that allow childcare providers to remain open during the continuing pandemic.
- Sample Outcomes: Increased health and safety in childcare settings; reduced viral exposure and instances of staff and student quarantine due to increased availability of testing.

- $1,500 – $20,000
- Grants are to provide a pool of flexible funding that organizations can use to purchase material items, cover administrative and staff costs, or provide cash assistance or grants to individuals.
Eligibility Criteria
- While each grant process has its own criteria, all applicants must be defined as tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c) (3) or any applicable statute of the Internal Revenue code. While grants are occasionally made to governmental agencies, local nonprofits receive priority. Requests will be considered from groups that do not have tax-exemption status, provided that they have a fiscal agent with the appropriate tax status. In projects involving a partnership of agencies, a single agency with the appropriate tax status and financial management capacity must assume the role of lead organization.
- Individuals are not eligible for grants except for participants in the New Haven Neighborhood Leadership Program and applicants to academic scholarships.
