The Silicon Valley Community Foundation is accepting applications for its Neighborhoods Grant to provide funding to residents and neighborhood groups working to create community-driven solutions and catalyze social change by building community and increasing the engagement, power and influence of community members affected by economic and racial disparities.
Donor Name: Silicon Valley Community Foundation
State: California
Counties: San Mateo County (CA) and Santa Clara County (CA)
Type of Grant: Grant
Deadline: 05/05/2023
Size of the Grant: $5,000
Details:
Neighborhoods marked by poverty and a history of disinvestment are cut off from opportunities and resources that promote wellness. These communities face unequal health outcomes and widening disparities, especially among low-income residents, residents who are Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) and those of undocumented status.
The work that this program funds is part of a long-term strategy to achieve systemic change in Silicon Valley. Groups seeking to apply should have a clear focus on racial justice and a plan to center the community they are serving in leadership, design and implementation of programs.
Priority will be given to groups led by those who are Black, Indigenous and people of color and/or of undocumented status. Priority will also be given to groups with annual budgets under $500,000. Grants will be for general and program support groups that demonstrate all of the following:
- Prioritize engagement of communities of color and those of undocumented status
- Address emerging community needs with projects designed by residents who are building community while working for social and racial justice
- Commit to partnerships with others and make use of relational organizing strategies, while centering trusted community messengers in their work
- Include tactics central to power-building, such as policy advocacy, accountability with elected officials and voter engagement
Note: 2023 Neighborhoods Fund grant recipients are able to apply for funding for a maximum of three consecutive years, provided their work aligns with the RFP criteria. Following the third year of funding, grantees must wait 12 months before applying again.
