Funding Information
- Grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded to tax-exempt organizations.
- The performance period for this grant begins October 1, 2023, and ends September 30, 2024.
Eligible Expenses
The budget must cover one or more of the following items associated with abortion services. The budget should cover all costs associated with your program even if you are not requesting funding for them under this grant. This includes products or services paid for by other sources of funding or in-kind contributions:
- Education
- Financing
- Marketing/Advertising
- Operations/Working Capital
- Room & Board
- Travel/Transportation
- Miscellaneous
Eligibility Criteria
Geographic Focus
The Abortion Protection Fund will support organizations located in Baltimore City AND serving Baltimore City residents.
Types of Organizations
Applicants must meet ALL eligibility criteria listed below. Your organization:
- Is classified as tax-exempt as designated in an IRS Determination letter with ability to provide all required application components or is fiscally sponsored by an organization that meets this requirement.
- Must have an address in Baltimore City and provide services to support Baltimore City residents.
- Can provide financials (Most recent IRS 990 filing or most recent independent audit, depending on charitable contributions to the organization budget).
- Can confirm your organization is in “Good Standing” with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation with a Certificate of Good Standing dated after January 1, 2023.
- Has at least five (5) years of documented experience providing abortion services (medical, supportive, or educational).
Restrictions and Limitations
The following are not eligible for grant funding:
- Individuals, state or federal government agencies, or for-profit organizations or businesses.
- Requests for support that do not fall within the funding guidelines.
- Activities that improperly discriminate as to race, gender, marital status, sexual preference, age, disability, creed or ethnicity, or grants for religious indoctrination or other religious activities.
- Organizations which are not located in Baltimore City.
- Organizations which directly counsel against abortion as an option or specifically exclude abortion as a service or option
