The Art Angels Grant support innovative, courageous, experimental projects that serve marginalized communities and promote the arts as a way to heal, feel, learn & transform. They are doing things a bit differently this time around. In 2022, their grantmaking process is being led by a group of local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) experienced artists who will work together to distribute funds.

Who They Fund
They fund fiscally sponsored artists & small to mid-size non-profit organizations that seek to create arts productions based in Connecticut River Valley in Western Massachusetts. They support innovative, courageous, experimental projects that serve marginalized communities and promote the arts as a way to heal, feel, learn & transform.
They are interested in artists & organizations who:
- Increase the presence and accessibility of the arts in communities across Western Massachusetts
- Facilitate empowerment, transformation, and education through the arts
- Use arts and creativity as tools in the development of human potential
- Seek to cultivate wide audiences to engage and interact with art in unusual and atypical ways: virtually, digitally, and/or in person
They tend to fund:
- Projects led by a diverse group of artists
- Smaller organizations or start-ups
- Artists who provide arts access to low-income and other underserved people
- Those who want to make the leap of faith to the next stage of development and impact
- Those who work in collaboration with other community-based organizations
They are less likely to fund:
- Individual artists without fiscal sponsorship
- Projects based outside the Connecticut River Valley or traveling projects.
Evaluation Criteria
Each application will be evaluated based on its:
- Uniqueness & Creativity,
- Use of the arts in creating greater access & impact in and around the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts, and
- Plan to engage audiences.
