The award recognizes individuals in LaGrange County who have made an extraordinary commitment to volunteerism and serving others. The Heart of Gold Award was created to recognize outstanding volunteers whose unselfish and dedicated service has made significant contributions to LaGrange County.
While many people do great things on the job, this recognition is for volunteerism, not exemplary work as a course of their employment. Any person, regardless of age, who enhances the quality of life of others is eligible for nomination. The selection committee will be looking at the criteria as outlined below:
- recognize needs and fulfill them
- share time and energy for the sake of others
- render a service that changes lives
- work to create positive change
- inspire others to volunteer
Such acts of service may go largely unnoticed and include, but are not limited to:
- helping senior citizens or disadvantaged persons
- working to improve the quality of education
- expanding recreation and cultural opportunities
- working with children
- protecting the environment
- increasing jobs in the community
