In recognition of the significance of Route 66 to America’s heritage, Congress passed an act in 1999 to create the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program. Administered by the National Park Service, the program is dedicated to preserving the special places and stories of the historic highway.
The NPS Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program facilitates the development of guidelines and a program of technical assistance and grants to set priorities for the preservation of the Route 66 corridor. The program provides financial assistance in the form of competitive cost-share grants for the preservation of the most significant and representative buildings, structures, road segments, and cultural landscapes along the length of the Route 66 corridor, covering Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Cost-share grants are also available for planning, research, and educational initiatives related to the preservation of Route 66.
The projects and activities will be individually authorized by separate awards, with each project or activity having a separate work plan and budget developed cooperatively between the NPS and the cooperator.

- Non-Construction Projects – Planning, Research, Interpretive, or Educational
Funding Information
An estimated range of $5,000 To $30,000 of funding is anticipated for each award.
Grant Period
Anticipated Term of the Agreement September 01, 2022 – September 30, 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
In accordance with P.L. 106-45, Private individuals and business owners, Nonprofit organizations, Educational institutions, Local government agencies, State government agencies, and Tribal government agencies are eligible to apply.
