The James M. and Martha J. Perry Agricultural Scholarship was established in 1997 by Gladys J. Perry, to honor and recall the lives of her late parents, James and Martha. The Perrys were dedicated to the land and reaped all of the benefits that the soil had to offer. They loved their community and had a strong interest in education and young people. This scholarship was established to provide support for graduating seniors from Elgin Public High School who are seeking a degree in agriculture.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must be a current graduating senior of Elgin Public High School, Elgin, Nebraska planning to attend a qualified college or technical school seeking a degree in the field of agriculture. Post-secondary education must begin the academic year immediately following high school graduation. The applicant must possess the ability to do post-secondary work in a satisfactory manner. This scholarship will not be awarded to any student who receives a scholarship which sufficiently finances all tuition, fees, and books during the student’s initial year of college study.

High school transcript(s) (copies of transcripts are acceptable), Two (2) references’ e-mail addresses. References will be notified to fill out an online form. References must be teachers, counselors, case workers, clergy, employers, neighbors, etc. (references from family members are not acceptable), and a special essay explaining: 1) why you are interested in pursuing an education in agriculture, 2) how this education has a direct relationship to your permanent career objectives, and 3) why you are deserving of this award. Your essay should be no more than 500 words.
