The goal of the grant is to support the creative work of individual artists in all disciplines while highlighting the role of artists as vital members of the community. These grants are made possible with public, Statewide Community Regrant (SCR) funds from the New York State Council on the ARTS (NYSCA), a state agency, and administered locally by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council).
Funding Criteria & Priorities
Grants are funded based upon the following funding criteria:
- Artistic and/or Cultural Merit
- Public Engagement
- Managerial & Fiscal Competence
Additional consideration is given to the following funding priorities:
- BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or Folk & Traditional applicants and/or focused projects
- Projects with innovative approaches to public engagement
Funding Information
- Applicants can request grant funding from $1,000 to $2,500.
- Projects must be completed between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
Project Eligibility
Individual Artist grants support the creation of new artwork by an individual artist. Artists must also engage the public in either the artwork creation or through a public program that occurs in the same county where the applicant resides. The following are additional project eligibility requirements:
- Created artwork cannot be commercial arts, martial arts, or other entertainment arts.
- Projects cannot support, as the primary benefit, the financial gain of an individual or organization.
- Direct NYSCA applicants may offer their venue gratis, handle ticketing, and provide other support as long as they do not financially benefit from the created artwork public presentation and it is not advertised as part of their official programming.
Eligibility Criteria
Individual artists of all disciplines residing in Cataraugus, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, or Tioga county are eligible to apply. The following are additional applicant eligibility requirements:
- Individuals must be 18 years of age and older and cannot be enrolled in a university degree program.
- Direct 2024 NYSCA applicants, regardless of funding status, are ineligible.
- Previous 2023 SCR Round 1 grant recipients must have fulfilled all grant requirements.
