The directors of the fund recognize the critical roles parents and early childhood education providers play to ensure a child’s readiness to enter school on a path to success and the importance of youth engagement programs that help develop aspirations and abilities of the youth.

This program provides:
- General support grants for ongoing programming and operational needs (organization mission must be focused on one of the two areas above)
- Project grants for new or expanding early childhood or youth engagement projects or programs.

Maximum Award: usually $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)
- Municipalities
- Public schools
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior
- Groups without any tax status may apply with a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described above
- To receive a grant, an organization or project must be based in the Greater Portland area (Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, Scarborough, South Portland, Portland, and Westbrook) and focus on one of the following:
- Young children aged birth to eight, their families and teachers
- Engagement for middle and high-school students.
