The goal of the Hospitality Tax Grant program is to draw more visitors to the City of Greenwood who patronize local eating and drinking establishments, while simultaneously enriching the quality of life for current City residents through:
- Advertisement, marketing, and promotion of events and other tourism related development
- Attract tourism leading to dining at restaurants and other eating/drinking establishments in the City of Greenwood
- Support and highlight Greenwood’s historic and cultural venues, recreational facilities, and events
Hospitality Tax is a 2% tax on the sales of prepared meals and beverages sold in establishments or sales of prepared meals and beverages in the City of Greenwood.
Funding Priorities
As required by the South Carolina Hospitality Tax Law, projects must attract visitors to the City of Greenwood. Priority will be given to unique projects that:
- Generate additional tourism-related tax dollars within the City of Greenwood
- Promote dining at restaurants in the City of Greenwood
- Generate overnight stays in City of Greenwood lodging facilities
- Construct new or enhance existing recreation facilities
- Promote and highlight the City of Greenwood’s historic and cultural venues, recreational facilities, trails and events, and uniqueness of the local community
- Promote arts and cultural events.
Funding Information
First-time events/projects/programs may be awarded an amount up to $1,500.
Eligibility Criteria
- All applicants for the competitive grant process must have an IRS Not-For-Profit status or be a governmental agency. To ensure eligibility, applicants will need to provide either a letter from the IRS confirming nonprofit status, confirmation of registration with the South Carolina Secretary of State’s Office as a nonprofit organization, or other documentation
- Entities that are not formal non-profit organizations but serve a charitable purpose will be asked to submit a letter from its organizers detailing its purpose, structure, and other information
- Grantee organizations may not re-grant City H-Tax funds to other organizations. All funds must be spent on direct expenditures by the organization that receives the allocation.
