The goals of the Urgent Repair Program are:
- To alleviate housing conditions which pose an imminent threat to the life or safety of very low-income homeowners with specials needs.
- To provide accessibility modifications and other repairs necessary to prevent the imminent displacement of very low-income homeowners with special accessibility needs, such as frail elderly and persons with disabilities.
Eligible Repairs
- Flooring system
- Systems upgrades (i.e. plumbing, electrical, and HVAC)
- Roof repair and/or replacement
- Lead, mold, or asbestos abatement
- Accessibility features for entering and exiting the home (i.e. wheelchair ramps, hand rails and grab bars, kitchen and bathroom adaptations, and door alterations).
Eligible Properties
- Home must be located within the city limits.
- Single family residences or manufactured homes (if they meet HUD manufactured housing quality standards).
Eligibility Criteria
- Must own the home and reside in the home as primary residence.
- Must earn less than 50% of Area Median Income (Gross Income).
- NC Housing Finance Agency defines special needs as:
- Elderly (>= 62 years of age)
- Handicapped or disabled
- Single parent with at least one dependent child in residence
- Large household (5 or more people)
- Children below the age of 6 with lead hazards in home
- Military veteran.
