Purpose
The Frances Hollis Brain Foundation Fund supports nonprofit organizations and projects that serve disadvantaged, underserved, and/or vulnerable communities in Auburn, Bath, Biddeford, Brunswick, Greater Portland, Lewiston, Saco, and/or Sanford.
Priorities
Priority will be given to organizations or projects that focus on one of the following:
- Education
- Early childhood care and Education (defined as ages 0-8)
- Extended day learning (after-school and summer learning programs)
- Health care
- Community clinics and safety net providers
- Oral health initiatives
- Hunger prevention and food security
- Homelessness alleviation
- Legal services are connected with the areas.
Types of Funding
This program provides:
- General support grants for organizations serving individuals in Auburn, Bath, Biddeford, Brunswick, Greater Portland, Lewiston, Saco, and/or Sanford with a focus on one of the priority areas listed above. To receive a general support grant, an organization must have previously received a grant from the Frances Hollis Brain Foundation Fund.
- Project support grants for new or expanding projects.

Maximum Award – $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit, charitable organizations are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)
- Municipalities
- Public schools
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior
- Groups without any tax status may apply with a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described.
