The Hennepin County Green Partners grants support community-based projects with funding, resources and training to engage a wide array of audiences in learning about and taking action to protect the environment. As a result of successful collaborations, residents are empowered to become better environmental stewards and take action individually and collectively to prevent waste, recycle, reduce household hazardous waste, conserve energy, care for trees, protect pollinators, and improve air and water quality.
Type of Grant
The Hennepin County awards two types of environmental education grants.
- Environmental action grants: These grants are for projects that focus on motivating adults to do more to protect the environment by focusing on one or two environmentally friendly actions using behavior change strategies.
- Youth environmental education grants: These grants are for projects that engage youth in learning about the environment and becoming environmental stewards using youth environmental education best practices.

- Environmental action grants: Motivating individuals to make behavior changes at home, at work, or on-the-go.
- Youth environmental education grants: Developing awareness of environmental issues and interest in environmental
Funding Information
- Organizations who have never received an environmental education grant may apply for a one-year grant of up to $10,000.
- Organizations who have received an environmental education grant may apply for a one-year grant for up to $20,000 or, if you meet the criteria, a two-year grant for up to $40,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Grant, the applicant must be one of the following:
- State registered nonprofits, such as community, youth, and faith groups
- Private and public school, including community education and early childhood family education programs
- Park district.
