The mission of the Wirtanen Family Fund is to increase community awareness of their global interdependence; to encourage progressive social change in their country; to broaden participation in their democratic society — particularly to assure continued freedom of expression as guaranteed by the First Amendment to their Constitution; to fight racism, sexism and discrimination of all kinds; to promote justice in their society; to promote access to universal health care; and in general to promote the well being of all people. The Wirtanen Family Fund encourages co-sponsorship and co-funding of projects.
The objective of the Wirtanen Family Fund is to provide assistance to projects which:
- increase citizen understanding of world cultures, political and social systems, international trade;
- highlight the need for population control;
- address the problems of the less-developed countries;
- contribute to the preservation of the environment;
- examine the validity of military expenditures; and
- foster justice and human rights.
Funding Information
Grants generally range from $500 to $4,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for funding, an organization must:
- be classified as a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; or
classified as an organization under Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code; and - be located in or provide service to residents within the seven counties of northeast Minnesota (Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis) and/or Bayfield, Douglas and Ashland in northwestern Wisconsin.
