Funding Information
The minimum grant award is $2,000 and the maximum is $10,000. Grants are designed to cover a portion of the costs associated with outdoor space improvements.
Applicant Match Requirement:
- Eligible for 50% of total, approved projects costs if project is located in a Census Tract with a Combined Equity Score of 2 – 4.
- Eligible for 75% of total, approved projects costs if project is located in a Census Tract with a Combined Equity Score of 5 – 7.
- Eligible for 90% of total, approved projects costs if project is located in a Census Tract with a Combined Equity Score of 8 – 10.
Disbursement Structure
- 25% of awarded grant amount disbursed once funding agreement is fully executed.
- 50% disbursed once 75% of the project is completed.
- 25% disbursed once the entire project is completed and all inspections and related requirements have been successfully met.
- Project must be completed within six (6) months of commencement.
Eligible Expenses
- Design costs
- Construction materials
- Construction labor
- Construction and materials associated with physical improvements to the project space, including but not limited to patios, accessibility upgrades, take-out windows, shade structures, etc.
- Umbrellas, fans, and other cooling systems
- Outdoor heaters
- Outdoor furniture
- Lighting
- Weather protection investments
- Digital Technology (contactless point-of-sales (POS) ordering, Wi-Fi upgrades, etc., but no more than 25% total project value in total value).
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a small, locally owned, and independently operated food and drinking establishments located within the City of San Antonio city limits.
- Small as defined by the Small Business Administration (SBA)for North American Industry Classification (NAICS) codes:
- 722410 – Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages)
- 722511 – Full-Service Restaurants
- 722513 – Limited-Service Restaurant
- 722514 – Cafeterias, Grill Buffets, and Buffets
- 722515 – Snack and Nonalcoholic Beverage Bars
- Operating prior to January 1, 2021
- Property in compliance with all Zoning and Unified Development Code (UDC) requirements, or commit to complying prior to completion of the proposed project
- Applicant and/or property owners must be current on all City property taxes.
- No City liens against applicant and/or property owner.

- Franchisors (local or non-local)
- Gambling/Gaming Businesses
- Sexually Oriented Businesses
- Payday & Auto Loan Providers
- Liquor Stores
- Tobacco, CBD, and Vape Stores
- Government owned and/or occupied buildings
- Any business in which a City employee or officer has a financial interest, as defined in Sec. 2-53 of the City’s Ethics Code
