Purpose
As part of its pandemic recovery efforts, the City of Kingston has allocated $375,000 of its federal American Rescue Plan Act award to fund a local Community Events Grant Program. The goal is to respond to the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 health emergency by focusing on the needs of non-profit groups and for-profit businesses that plan to host free community events in 2023. Events must either have previously been established as an annual event prior to 2020 — or if new, not duplicate other organizations’ existing events, and focus primarily on youth and families as the target audience. Applicant organizations must be based within City of Kingston limits.
To help ensure that community events in the City remain strong and sustainable, grants of up to $5,000 per successful application will be available on a reimbursement basis until the funding is exhausted. Non-profit organizations and for profit businesses are eligible to apply for support for up to five free events in 2023 that meet the eligibility criteria below.
Funding Information
The minimum grant request is $2,500 and maximum is $5,000. The maximum a given organization may receive for five events is $25,000.
Eligible Uses of funds
Non-profit organizations and businesses may use funds to administer free events that take place between February 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. To be eligible for reimbursement, grant funds must be used for:
- Marketing and Promotions
- Performer/Production Stage Personnel/Presenter Fees
- Event Equipment Rentals (Tents, chairs, sound systems, tables, etc.)
- Event Venue Staffing/Facility Costs
- Event Security
- Entertainment Rentals (Including: Photobooths, bouncy houses, VR Pods or Slides, Karaoke Machines, etc. Mechanical bull rentals are ineligible for support.)
- Porta-Toilets
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit groups and businesses located within City limits are eligible to apply for up to five events per year at up to $5,000 per event — for a total of up to $25,000 per organization. Events must be free and open to the public and either have previously taken place prior to 2020, or if new, not duplicate pre-existing events, and focus primarily on youth and families as the target audience. New events must also have the potential to be beneficial to the broader community and become annual in nature. Overall preference will be shown to applications for events that focus primarily on youth and families as well as those that draw audiences from diverse backgrounds.
- In addition, to be eligible for an award, an organization must not:
- Be facing any pending litigation or legal action
- Have any business owners, including all managing members and/or officers, who have been convicted of financial crimes within the past three years
- Have received or anticipate receiving alternate federal, state, or local grants or other funding to cover the same costs and/or uses included in this application
- Be suspended or debarred from the use of federal funds
- Be a franchise, unless the franchise is not a subsidiary of a larger corporation.
