Purpose
These grants are for:
- A group of resident who want to come together around an issue in their community.
- who want to work together The goal is community engagement.
- on a project including community programming or strengthening (training, classes, events, etc.) or physical improvement projects.
Categories
The focus of these grants is engaging with the community.
- Physical Improvement
- Projects that enhance and/or beautify the community
- Physical improvement projects require written permission from the property owner.
- Projects that enhance and/or beautify the community
- Community Strengthening / Cohesion
- Projects that help expand engagement in the community.
- Projects to prepare and support communities to become more active, organized and stronger.
- Community Programming
- Projects that provide resources, activities and other support to community members, including seniors, youth, low-income residents and families, and those with limited English proficiency.
- Programming may include sharing and learning about cultures, promoting public safety and security, and promoting wellness and healthy living.
Funding Information
These grants are for up to $5,000.
- First-Time Applicants and Communities that haven’t received a Neighborhood Matching Grant: its recommend these communities’ request no more than $2,500.
- Past grant recipients with successful projects and complete reporting may request up to $5,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Any neighborhood, resident, or community group in the City of Durham, North Carolina may apply.
Priority Groups
Priority will be given to applicants from the following groups:
- Underrepresented communities.
- First-time grant recipients.
- Communities who have held Community Conversations in the last year.
Underrepresented Communities
- persons of color,
- persons of low-wealth,
- persons with disabilities,
- youth (ages 24 years old and younger),
- persons with limited English proficiency,
- persons who identify as LGBTQ,
- Immigrants and refugees
- renters, and/or
- other groups which are most likely to be negatively impacted by community changes and/or development (e.g. property value increases).
