Throughout the nation, farmers are experiencing severe challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather patterns, increased duration and number of natural disasters, and financial losses. Now more than ever, organic producers need access to both immediate and long-term financial support to prepare for and recover from natural disasters and economic loss. This grant cycle they are focusing on supporting California dairy farmers affected by the drought.

Eligibility Criteria
Bricmont Hardship Assistance Dairy Fund applicants must
- be a certified organic dairy operation in good standing;
- be based in California;
- make less than $1,000,000 gross income;
- provide a valid organic certificate;
- demonstrate severe economic loss experienced in the current calendar year;
- submit a complete description of hardship endured;
- submit supporting evidence and financial documentation of loss resulting from the hardship;
- if awarded, agree to submit a final progress report 12 months after award.
- Grantees who have received funding in the last 12 months from the Bricmont, Future Organic Farmers, or Organic Transition grant funds from CCOF are not eligible for additional funding.
Producers are not eligible for this grant if they have received a CDFA California Underserved and Small Producers (CUSP) economic relief grant from Community Alliance of Family Farmers (CAFF), the Fresno Asian Business Institute and Resource Center (ABIRC), CCOF, or the People’s Land Fund within the last 12 months.
Eligible expenses include but are not limited to
- electric bills that have increased by 50 percent or more due to increased rates,
- surface water costs if increased from previous year,
- cost of hauling water for livestock,
- lowering ag well pumps if a primary source of water is lost,
- emergency upgrades to irrigation system (paired with conservation) if not covered through CDFA Office of
- Environmental Farming & Innovation (OEFI) or USDA programs and for other emergency scenarios, and crop loss or decreased crop yields due to water shortage or having to fallow land.
