The purpose of the Spencer Award is to recognize significant contributions to the advancement of ecological and economic practices that will make agriculture more sustainable and the family farm secure for the future.
Funding Information
They will provide $2,000 in cash prize funding in 2022.
Selection Criteria
- The candidate will have made significant contributions that will affect, influence and/or advance the ecological and economic stability of mainstream family farms in Iowa;
- The achievement(s) for which the award is given must represent significant research, technical or practical advancement or education; and,
- The candidate shall have demonstrated a continuing commitment to the sustainability of mainstream family farms.
- Candidates may be farmers, groups, graduate students or others who meet these criteria.
- In consultation with the Spencer Family, eligibility for the award is now open to graduate students at Iowa State University or from any Iowa educational institution who have demonstrated commitment to furthering sustainable, agroecologically sound agricultural practices, above and beyond routine studies.
