This includes but is not limited to support for fiber arts, ceramics, basketry, jewelry, glass arts, woodwork, leather, metal crafts, and more. It also includes traditional Native American handcrafts.
Priorities
This grant program will give additional priority to proposals that:
- Have the greatest potential to positively impact the community or the organization
- Will be sustained after Maine Community Foundation funding ends
- Include other sources of funding to support the proposed work.

Types of Funding
This program provides:
- Project grants for new or expanding projects:
- New Project Grants are those that are no more than two years old (one year of pilot, one year of full implementation)
- Expanding Project Grants have already been successfully implemented and will be serving a different population, geographic area, or include new services or content other than what was previously implemented
- General support grants for ongoing work and operational needs ONLY for those organizations that focus solely on promoting traditional handcrafts in Maine.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)
- Municipalities
- Public schools
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior
- Groups without any tax status may apply with a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described above.
