Aligning with the Community Foundation’s strategic objective of fostering a dynamic local economy, the Business Equity Initiative Grant assists small business owners, particularly women of color, with access to capital and funding support not available through traditional loans.
Funding Information
Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 and can be used for:
- Rent and lease payments
- Utilities
- Machinery and equipment
- Marketing, materials and/or website development
- Inventory and supplies
- Furniture and Fixtures
- Licenses and permits
Grant funds may not be used for:
- Prior expenses (unless approved by MWF)
- Repayment of loans or capital contributions
- Investments
- Payments or distributions to founders, principal, owners or affiliates of the company
- Business that are franchise, nonprofit organizations, chain, adult entertainment
Eligibility Criteria
- Small business owners, particularly women of color
- Residents of Muskegon County
- 1 – 3 years in business, legally established and registered with the State of Michigan (providing proof of status, certificate of business in good standing)
- Willing to utilize the business resources available in Muskegon County for education and mentoring (insert resource link)
