Anchorlight is seeking applications for its 2023 Brightwork Fellowship to demonstrate to artists living and working in North Carolina that they are valued, worthy of investment, and that the voice they bring to the cultural discourse of our state is a vital facet of North Carolina’s identity.

The program accepts artists who:
- Display obvious talent and individual vision.
- Are creating original work both in concept and production.
- Are generous, industrious, and creative thinkers.
- Are able to work and get along with a variety of other individuals in a semi-private studio environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to their practice through an existing body of work.
The Brightwork Fellowship provides a 500+ square-foot studio space at Anchorlight, an exhibition opportunity in our gallery, and an unrestricted financial award of $50,000.00 to one North Carolina based artist per year who is at a pivotal moment in their career.
Funding Duration
The 2023 Fellowship dates are January 15, 2023- January 13, 2024. The exhibition dates of work produced during the fellowship period are estimated to be mid-February through mid-April 2024 and may be subject to change.
Eligibility Criteria
Visual Artists 18+ years of age, who have lived in North Carolina for a minimum of one year at the time of their application and who will continue living in North Carolina for the duration of the Fellowship may apply.
