The City of Chicago has announced the Chicago Resilient Communities Monthly Cash Assistance Pilot program to promote economic mobility and economic recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. 5,000 households will be randomly selected through an open application to receive $500 per month for twelve months, with no strings attached.

This cash assistance program will empower residents to decide how to best meet their financial needs and goals. This program also includes a research component to help the City of Chicago understand the impact of monthly unconditional cash payments on residents. Research findings will inform current and future social services and policies and we would value your participation. Participation in the research study is voluntary and will not impact your application or your eligibility for the program. If you choose to participate in the study, you might have the opportunity to earn additional incentives for your participation in research activities, which include surveys, interviews, and observational learning. Depending on the research activities you are selected for and choose to complete, you can earn between $20 and $600 as a thank you for your participation. You will have an opportunity to opt in to research activities at the end of the application.

Eligibility Criteria
Chicago residents who meet all of the following eligibility requirements are eligible to enter the lottery:
- You reside in the City of Chicago AND
- You are 18 years of age or older AND
- You have experienced economic hardship related to COVID-19 AND
- Your household income level falls at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level
