United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg defines equity as the intentional inclusion of everyone in society. Equity is achieved when systemic, institutional, and historical barriers based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities are dismantled and no longer predict socioeconomic, education and health outcomes.
Funding Information
The program proposal must request at least $25,000 in grant funding.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applying organization must be one of the following:
- A private non-profit organization with a 501(c)3 tax exemption
- An organization with a 501(c)3 tax-exempt fiscal sponsor
- Coordinating entity or coalition that meets either of the above 501(c)3 criteria
- A faith-based organization with a separate 501(c)3 that offers programs/services to the general public and does not restrict access to services based on religious affiliation or require participation in religious activities
- The applying organization must:
- Provide health and/or human services that align with at least one of United Way’s Steps to Success
- Be located within or primarily serve residents of United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg’s coverage area (Charles City, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Petersburg, Powhatan, Richmond)
- Be in compliance with all anti-terrorism law requirements
- Comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations relating to its business, including but not limited to its fundraising, accounting and payment of taxes
- Have a Board of Directors that governs, establishes and enforces policy, meets at least quarterly and to whom the Chief Professional Officer (or Executive Director) reports
- Have at least one paid employee
- Have been in existence for at least 36 months
- Be registered with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to engage in fundraising in the Commonwealth of Virginia OR be in receipt of an official exemption
- Provide services in a manner that complies with all federal, state and local laws regarding discrimination
- Operate in policy and practice without discrimination based on age, race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, disability, cultural heritage or national origin (subject to appropriate limitations based on agency’s scope of service)
- Agree to conduct an annual United Way campaign among agency staff and board members
