The purpose of this grant opportunity is to strengthen relationships between Fred Hutch and community led organizations who support diverse racial, ethnic and underrepresented communities in Washington. These community-academic partnerships can enhance each organization’s abilities to plan, develop, implement and evaluate culturally appropriate, evidence-informed programs that are tailored to meet the specific needs and expectations of diverse, racial, ethnic, and underrepresented communities.
Goals
Cancer health inequities are differences in cancer outcomes, such as screening rates, incidence (new cases), stage at diagnosis, mortality (deaths), quality of life after cancer treatment and survivorship that often place underrepresented populations at a disadvantage. Therefore, the goals of the community grant funding are:
- Address significant health inequities within affected communities
- Implement projects to address a community identified need
- Maintain collaborative activities with key partners.
Funding Information
Projects may ask for up to $15,000 total costs (direct + indirect costs). Indirect costs, (facilities and administrative (F&A) costs), if applicable, should be no more than 10% and should be included in the $15,000 budget.

- Project period: 04/01/23 – 03/31/24.
Eligible Projects
- Identifying unmet need(s) within a defined community
- Exploring or testing solutions to health inequity issues.
- Increasing the understanding of factors that influence the health of diverse, racial, ethnic, and underserved communities.
- Enhancing/expanding an existing program by adding new activities or reaching a new part of the community.
- New program development.
Eligibility Criteria
- Community-based organizations, non-profit, 501(c) 3 organizations, and Tribes located in Washington State are eligible to apply.
- Services must be provided in Washington State or serve residents in Washington.
- Applicants must have experience working with/in diverse racial, ethnic and underserved communities.
